The Africa UNiTE Campaign runs from 2008 to 2015 to coincide with the MDGs. The Campaign is a continent-wide partnership, involving about 14 UN Agencies, working with AU, Africa Member States, and other stakeholders to end violence against women (EVAW). Through a rights-based approach, the Campaign aims to create awareness and win political support for EVAW. It provides a coordination framework to ensure a synergistic and collaborative response across the continent. It seeks to ensure that victims/survivors of GBV receive needed services and to end impunity on GBV-related offences and empower women and communities to demand accountability and end violence against women and girls. The campaign is centred on 3 P’s:
- Prevent the occurrence of violence against women, girls, and boys;
- Promote access to services and end impunity;
- Provision of services to survivors of violence.
The Kenyan Chapter of the Africa UNiTE Campaign, launched in March 2012, convened a national conference on GBV to mobilize policy makers and non state actors to strengthen commitments and actions towards EVAW. The Conference was held in Nairobi in November 2012, bringing together more than 300 human rights and gender activists and policy makers. Details of the campaign can be obtained at:
